Living in Bengaluru as part of a nuclear Malayali family, Sruthi Hariharan is dedicated to preserving their traditions, even if it means observing festivities like Onam with just her husband, Raam Kumar, and daughter Janki. Recalling her childhood memories of attending Onam celebrations at the East Cultural Association, Sruthi cherishes the flavors of the sadhya feast, particularly the payasam, aviyal, and sharkara upperi. She emphasizes the importance of sustainability, expressing her love for aviyal due to its zero-waste concept. Since marrying into a Malayali family, Sruthi has found that her Onam celebrations have become more meaningful. She and her husband, Raam, ensure to carry on their cultural values by observing traditions such as making a pookalam, preparing a sadhya feast, and visiting a temple together. Their daughter, Janki, enthusiastically participates in the festivities, assisting with the pookalam and learning elements of Kaikottikali. Despite the challenges of being a nuclear family in an urban setting, they strive to uphold their heritage.Sruthi and Raam cherish their traditions and strive to instill them in their daughter.
